Welcome to the Hill Country

I created this site to help other gardeners discover plants that do well in the Spring Branch area, which is located between San Antonio and Austin, in the Texas Hill Country. This site allows me to keep track of what has worked for me and what has worked out better for the deer. Most of what I have learned has come researching deer resistant plants online, and from trial and error.

On the Deer Resistant Plants page, I have listed plants that live and thrive without protection from deer. That is not to say that they have never needed protection. Many of these plants had to be caged during their first full year of growth. I'll explain more about that on the Deer Resistant Plants page.
